Fall is on the horizon, and we’re soaking up every last bit of summer that we can. As the air cools and the leaves begin to change, we’re carrying forward the joy, milestones, and connections that made this summer so special across the Aspire community.
From big wins to everyday moments of connection, this season of transition is full of gratitude and celebration.
Here’s a look at what’s been lighting up Aspire as we step into fall:
The Aspire Region B Athletes, participated in a Special Olympic Bowling Event on Saturday August 9, at Stardust Lanes in Addison, which is an 80-lane bowling alley! Great job, athletes, you all did an amazing job!
While visiting the Morton Arboretum, we saw several of the scultpures within the Vivid Creatures Exhibition. Generosity is modeled after a white-tailed deer. Towering at 22 feet tall with antlers like branches and roots reaching deep, a symbol of how life in nature is deeply connected. Modeled after a sandhill crane, Cadence carries the rhythm of migration and moonlight; with her wingspan stretching 26 feet wide.
Cubs Win & History Made! On September 26, Brian and Chris enjoyed a thrilling day at Wrigley Field, cheering on the Cubs as they defeated the St. Louis Cardinals! The excitement didn’t stop with the win—history was made as Pete Crow-Armstrong became the first Cubs player ever to achieve a 30-30-30 season (30 home runs, 30 stolen bases, and 30 doubles). What a moment to witness live! A huge THANK YOU to Vince and Vinnie Foglia for the tickets!
Nintendo Day Fun! Our first ever Nintendo Day was held this month for games, laughter, and a touch of friendly competition. We brought out the Wii for nostalgic favorites like Wii Sports and added some modern excitement with Mario Kart on the Switch. There was also a special guest appearance from Sponge Bob and Patrick. It a day full of connection, play, and great memories.
On August 28th our Poms Squad, which is part of our Dance Team, had the opportunity for a pre-game performance at the Schaumburg Boomers game! The Poms Squad was even featured on the Boomers Reels on Instagram. After the performance, they cheered from the stands!
This month, Academy South welcomed Clinical Consultant Toshi for another exciting Glam Squad session! The Glam Squad explores topics like hygiene, skincare, and makeup techniques in a fun and educational way.
In this session, Toshi guided the people we support through the process of making their own customized lip gloss, combining creativity with self-care. It was a hands-on experience that left everyone feeling confident and inspired!
Aspire’s talented dancers brought energy and excitement to Yorktown Mall and the Fashion Outlet of Chicago with a lively flash mob performance! Shoppers clapped along and smiled as the dancers lit up the space with their moves, turning an ordinary afternoon into something unforgettable.
After spreading joy through dance, the group took a little time to explore the stores themselves before heading back to the Academy. It was a fun and memorable experience that showcased both creativity and community spirit!
Thanks to a generous supply of tickets, Academy South kicked off its visits to Brookfield Zoo this September! Our first groups have already enjoyed exploring the exhibits, and we’re excited to continue sending as many people as possible before winter arrives.
These trips offer a great opportunity for fun, learning, and connection with nature and we’re thrilled to make them accessible to as many people as possible.
