Aspire Life Consultant and Team Leader Jillian Schneider, who works in Aspire’s Living enterprise, will be recognized for making a positive impact in our community by CME Group and Chicago Blackhawks Charities at the hockey game on Monday, Dec. 29.
At each regular season home game, CME Group and Chicago Blackhawks Charities recognize an individual who is making a positive impact in our community through work in housing, education, health and wellness.
Jillian was selected based on her work to develop and implement an innovative independent living training program for adults 18+ with intellectual and developmental disabilities, called Life On My Own.
Life On My Own teaches, prepares and supports adults who want to live entirely on their own. It’s the only program in the country in which once completed, the individual settles into his or her own place and leads an independent lifestyle. Life On My Own has two program focus areas – Preparation and Support.
Life On My Own – Preparation provides individuals with a safe, staff-supported environment away from “home” to temporarily live so they can develop and build the confidence and skills needed to make the important step to living on their own. The duration of this program is unique to each person, ranging from six months to two years. It is molded around each person’s readiness to make the next step. Aspire is there from beginning to end, helping the individual find a home or a roommate in the community of their choice after completing the program.
Life On My Own – Support is another unique opportunity that ensures an individual continued success while living on their own. Through many different levels of services and staff options, individuals will create the best support system for themselves. We are flexible and work with individuals and families every step of the way to achieve success.
Tune in to WGN tonight to watch the game or listen for Aspire on the WGN Radio Blackhawks broadcast. If you’re at the game, you can see Jillian up on the jumbotron!
